It’s here. After a long time of writing, sitting with feelings until they were ready to become songs, and searching for honesty in every word — Sue Gerger’s second album ‘Bout Sane and Broken Hearts is out today.
Fifteen songs that each carry something of their own. The album grew slowly and with a lot of care — out of moments of love and loss, of trust and heartbreak, of saying goodbye and of finding home in unexpected places. It is an honest look at what it means to feel deeply, and an invitation to do the same.
Some songs will make you smile. Synchronously captures the rare, overwhelming feeling of truly merging with another person in love and trust. My Town is a bittersweet ode to Thessaloniki — a city that leaves something in you whether you’re ready for it or not. Piano Man wraps around you like a smoky bar late at night, whiskey taste in the air, the kind of place where strangers feel like old friends.
Others will sit with you in harder places. Tickle Me is a quiet river of sadness after losing someone dear. Tippling is a tender farewell to a beloved friend. Faces is the specific pain of watching someone you trusted become someone you no longer recognise. And Ode to Schubert does what most songs don’t dare — it screams out the anger and speaks plainly about the darkness in people, the kind we usually prefer to leave unspoken.
Through it all, Stay True holds on — a quiet hope that love survives the changes that time brings. And the title track is a world of its own, a journey through every state the human heart knows, from friendship to love, from fear to hope, from loss to something that might just be peace.
These are just a few of the fifteen songs waiting to be discovered. Each one its own small world, each one worth the listen.
